Shiko AGM 24/4/07

Present: Bill, Dan, Meeb, Duffy, Mike, Chris, Boyd, Jamie, Angi, Alex
Apologies: Pat, Ben, Laura, Lyn

* Review of last year's AGM- no outstanding matters.

* Accounts to be presented when treasurer is back.

* Decision- Introductory free sessions to be reduced from 3 to 1.

* Policy on no children at workshops confirmed, with exception of nursing mothers and crawlers!

* Situation on insurance clarified- Boyd holds public liability insurance and Tabernacle has insurance for hall use.

* Discussion about people turning up late. Many people not arriving until 7.30, when the workshop is supposed to start at 7pm. Agreed to point this out to the group and try to start at 7. Possibility of using first half hour for warming up and technique practice- idea to be put to group.

* Discussion about earplugs. It was that Shiko should have stock of earplugs available for individuals to use. Dan to look into cost.

* Boyd has djembes and djembe bags for sale, and also looking to sell his set of dunduns. Decision that Shiko buy Boyd's dunduns.

* Discussion about whether people still pay for sessions when Boyd is not available to lead. Agreed that people should pay as normal.

* Election of new committee:

* Discussion about dancers- agreed to ask members of Afro Tawe dancers to perorm with us at next benefit gig.

* Discussion about how Shiko approaches performances. Acknowledgement that there is more concerted rehearsal time needed to increase the number of rhythms that the group can perform in order achieve a full set. Request that the group also builds up more of a repertoire of 12/8 rhythms for a difference in sound.

The idea of 2 separate 'arms' of Shiko, aimed at players of different levels put forward. A smaller more advanced group would need greater levels of commitment to learn rhythms and practice between sessions.
Despite long discussions on this matter , and questions about the direction that might take Shiko in, no decisions reached.

* Agreed that new T-shirts need to be printed. Group to be consulted about logos.

* Agreed that Boyd would present a questionnaire to group members regarding undecided matters.
